To Revel
By definition to revel means to take great pleasure. I was raised to maintain control and order in my life. In every situation I have had one foot out of the door because the idea of things not being certain and truly indulging was too much chaos for me to manage. I never learned how to celebrate the big or small moments in life, and for the longest I was okay with that but in a world that feels like it’s constantly going to implode I’ve learned that indulging and joy are a part of life. At the big age of 32, I’m learning to explore and revel. I am learning to take up space, be loud, and lead with joy. Lately, I have been asking myself what it means to enjoy life. What it means to find joy when everything around you seems daunting.
To me, reveling in something goes beyond pleasure; it's the enduring excitement that encapsulates life. In this season, it means living in the moments of pain, sadness, through the mundane, and joy. Reveling teaches you to bask in self reflection and grow. Clay is the perfect medium of art to explore this concept. It is living, it is full of surprises, and it evolves with its environment. Creating with clay allows for connection between oneself, the world, and the moments.
I am finding joy through connecting with my family and community, reading, and exercising my creativity. I started to design pieces to bring warmth to life. To add little moments of joy to the mundane. I want to revel in the mud, in the mess, in the little details of life that make it all feel magical. These pieces are meant to be enjoyed with morning coffee, during a walk, and over dinner with friends. They’re all a little different because that’s what life is, it's imperfect, it's different yet it’s full of moments to revel in.
